It's not actually a hoax though, it actually is a new virus circulating across the globe causing serious health issues. That much isn't even up for debate, if you even have a small circle of friends, you're sure to know someone that has it, or knows first-hand of someone who has had it.

We can discuss all day along about the reaction to the pandemic though, that's a totally different thing. But complaining about the reaction to a virus doesn't make the existence of the virus itself a hoax. That's a shitty argument.

If you pretend for one moment that you're not on Reddit, you can stop making a stupid thread title, and actually come with the facts. You don't think the reaction to this virus has been proportionate. Fair, that's absolutely fair. But don't use clickbait titles like "hoax".

Hoax has a simple meaning, and that's that everything is staged and based on no facts. That's demonstrably false. Are the measures taken by governments a bunch of bullshit? Arguably yes. But it doesn't make the virus a hoax.

Does the media misrepresent the facts? Undeniably. Do governments spread panic? Again, undeniably. I also agree that many deaths are counted as COVID-19 deaths when they aren't necessarily. They've taken something and no doubt blown it out of proportion, but we still have much to learn. But let's use factual language, eh. Sitting in a puddle of our own drool isn't a good look

The thing is, it works the other way too. In italy they went back after the peak of the corona has passed and did some 'death accounting'. They had a certain number of deaths attributed to corona, and you would assume that the deaths from all other causes (old age, traffic accidents, heart attack etc) would stay the same or decrease during the corona period (more old people dying of corona is fewer dying of pneumonia, lock down means fewer traffic accidents and workplace accidents). Instead they found that the death rate from non-corona causes went UP significantly during the peak of the pandemic compared to what was projected based on before/after/previous years. They looked into it further and found out that what was happening is that someone would get corona that was "asymptomatic" but it put a lot of stress on their system and have them a heart attack, or an asthma attack. We also have seen cases of people who 'recovered' from corona virus dying of a stroke (it causes blood clots). These cases were caused directly by the virus but were recorded as non-corona deaths. The death rate was actually much higher than they thought it was at the time.

In conclusion: -the virus is real -It's way more deadly and problematic than the flu -Lock down is the only proven way to stop it (well done New Zealand!), though tough distancing and hygiene measures (masks) can get pretty close to stopping it.

The mortality rate is 0.04% and primarily affects immuno compromised and elderly. Your link is spoonfed narrative propaganda. Stop pushing these unhinged black plague conspiracy theories.

You're off by an order of magnitude, bud, and even that number has a lot of uncertainty associated with it.

New York City has 8.4 million people, and about 23,000 deaths counted right now. That's a little over 0.25%, over 6x your claimed 0.04% rate. If you're going to accuse others of pushing unhinged conspiracy theories, then at least use some semi-plausible numbers that can stand up to some basic scrutiny.

And how many of those numbers are inflated with co-morbidity? How many of them are old or already immuno-compromised?

And how many Normal Seasonal Flu Cases are there in New York right now?

Hint: They're calling seasonal flu, Covid. From New York health department:
