Yotter allows you to follow and gather all the content from your favorite Twitter and YouTube accounts in a beautiful feed so you can stay up to date without compromising your privacy at all. by [deleted] in YouTubeAlternatives

Nice, this seems like it could turn out to be a good alternative Youtube frontend now that Invidious is no longer being developed.

Thanks for the feedback, sorry my response took so long.

I'd perhaps be open to a 15 minute group conversation like that. How many people do you think would listen to it if it were to happen?

On the cooperation idea, I agree with you that more alternatives are better than less. Perhaps then our cooperation could focus on creating redundancy rather than re-directing views. Maybe we could accomplish this by the following: When anyone posts a video link to saidit from any video site, your bot could automatically create a mirror of that video on your site, and then post that link to a comment beneath the original video link. That way, we'd retain both the original and have a mirror from your site in the comments always. This would give traffic and content for both of us.

This would also be useful if the original video gets removed, or if people don't want to give traffic to certain video sites and instead wish to use that view traffic to support a more diversified information-sphere.

It's fine if you want to use gvid or create a new service to accomplish this. Whatever works best for you.

Let me know what you think! Thanks.

I ran gvid some years back and the dead end I ran into was copyright issues, so I don't want to intentionally facilitate ripping from youtube in a way that directly targets them.

Ah I see. I didn't anticipate that.

Well the good news is notabug and saidit are partnered already, notabug currently hosts a mirror of saidit here: https://notabug.io/t/saidit.all/firehose

And go1dfish is working on a way to port that code here to saidit, so we can mirror notabug. I've been calling it our "post-reddit federation".

Anyway, I guess my dream with a video site partnering with saidit would be something like this: Any time a user posts a video link (from youtube, but maybe also from other big video sites too, so it's not targeted just at youtube) the video is copied and mirrored on gvid. Maybe we can have a checkbox during submission that says "Change my video link to mirror on gvid" and then when the user posts it, the link goes to the gvid mirror instead of the original video. Or maybe the gvid link is generated in the comments and the original video post link is unchanged, that's another idea.

If we could get this working, it'd be great for gvid because it'd drive tons of traffic. And it'd be great for saidit because it'd give us a legitimate video mirroring and hosting solution.

Anyway, that's the rough idea. Not sure how technically difficult such a thing would be from your end, but if we could make it work that'd be some next-level stuff, and it would help both our sites grow quite a lot. Then if you get it working on saidit you might be able to branch it over to notabug too without having to code too much extra.

I honestly don't care about the traffic to your site right now, I just care if it functions properly or not. If it functions and is scalable, then I think we can work something out. Anyway, just some ideas, let me know if you're interested.

Hey I had an idea. Maybe if you develop a way to mirror stuff easily from youtube, gvid and saidit could maybe partner up and help promote each other.

Ah, thank you. Not sure why it stopped taking my password. :P

I'll give it try a bit later. :)

No youtube is the first ranked site that is similar to youtube. It's the #2 most visited website in the entire world, is what that 2 means.

add an additional column to specify which ones are decentralized/federated/blockchain based.

Honestly I don't really know the answer to that on a lot of them, but I'd be happy to do that if people can help me gather some of the info!

Thank you, that's a nice list. :)

I've used BitChute, and the only things i didn't like about it were the 480p res, and one time gave me the "one more step" Google Recaptcha. Otherwise, pretty good.

I've also used GVid, but as of lately, I can no longer log in. (Also, it's rank is 1337) :3

I'm currently attempting to try PeerTube, but it feels like I'm learning about Linux for the first time, and trying to understand how to get started. :P

Very useful, thanks! You might want to add an additional column to specify which ones are decentralized/federated/blockchain based.

Haven't tried them all, Bitchute seems like a decent service but there's a lot of trash videos on there so it's hard to find anything I'd want to watch. Also don't care for how they use Disqus comments from a privacy perspective. Flote - don't really care for the UI, calls to Google for some of their javascript. LBRY - I like the client, hopefully there will be more content on there. As for the blockchain aspect, I am not sure they need their own cryptocurrency (LBRY Credits, LBC). To me the most promising are PeerTube and IPFS, services that are incorporating federation and decentralization.

Not sure if you would call it an alternative, but I use the Youtube Proxy Invidious with the Invidition plugin so it might be worth mentioning.

Thanks. I also learned about a lot of these as I was making the list. Veoh seems nice. And gvid and open-video seem like brand-new no-names who might be good in the future.
