But I thought it was Russia that was interfering in American elections???

It's a free market. Any foreign power can interfere with they bribe enough of our politicians.

Israel has been manipulating US elections since before they became a country. Support Israel or you don't get elected to congress in the USA.

“We support candidates from both parties solely based on one criteria – their commitment to strengthening the US-Israel relationship,” AIPAC spokesperson Marshall Wittmann said in an emailed statement.

Yep - to control both parties

Just thought you might be interested - I rarely stumble upon mainstream media articles about AIPAC.

Certainly - this is a huge issue. The US war in Iraq, the misuse of intelligence about 9/11, the Israel-directed conflicts in the middle east, and now this slaugher of 30,000 innocent Gazans, is all because politicians won't appropriately respond to AIPAC's manipulations, since the time of Kissinger, I'd argue. The US is a war criminal because of a fucking political lobby (and greed). It's insane.

But how dare Russia support a politician

Yet another reason private money must be removed from politics. Any foreign nation so inclined can bribe our political candidates in the form of "campaign donations." This effectively cedes our sovereignty to the international elites. This is the only issue that matters right now politically. You can't make any political reforms when the organs of the state are controlled by someone else.

Does that include Americans donating?

[–]westway9 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Yes. Plenty of billionaire elites are from America. No one should be able to bribe a politician. Campaigns must be 100% publicly funded.

We have citizens United where the Supreme Court said it'd go against free speech from corporations. A private rich person can legally just give up to $5,500, basically nothing. They'd prefer to donate thru corporations anyway for privacy.

We need some kind of new law but it's like asking wolves to guard the hen house.

Clearly, we need a constitutional amendment enshrining publicly financed campaigns. And to those who say that's unrealistic, I say: Expecting democracy to survive legalized bribing of this politicians is unrealistic.

It's like expecting these politicians to vote for a salary decrease for themselves. And of course constitutional amendments require even more than usual, 67% votes. I'm not saying impossible just very unlikely.

Agreed, and yet that is the only way out I can see.

A revolution is probably unlikely. But this fake democratic system is even more unlikely to be changed by voting. I'll give the woke Hamas supporters credit for a moment. They are out in the streets violently protesting. I may disagree with the cause but I agree that the methods are leading to change. Hamas attacked people, propaganda of the deed. Caused reactionary attacks by Israel which most left wingers are against. Pressuring Biden. They don't have money to Donate, not as much as AIPAC anyway. So when you don't have money to donate you pressure politicians in other ways.

The only way out is Collabocracy.
