Staged injection.

Trudeau is not worthy of the honour of wearing that Pacific Northwest tattoo. I prefer higher coast work from K'san and the Haida, so the design is okay but not great, looking though it may be Kwakiutl or Tlingit. Not sure what's going on with the thing on Raven's head which would typically be ears if anything (stylized, since birds don't have visible ears). The globe in the belly is obviously a modern addition (usually it would be a design or spirit in there), and the designer missed a perfect opportunity to feature the sun in Raven's mouth to reference their most famous origin story of how the world came to be - like this design I created in 2000 or 2001. Pacific Northwest art has evolved and blurred a lot over the last couple hundred years.

Turns out the design is by Robert Davidson, a top Haida artist who usually embraces very minimal modern form-lines, unlike that tattoo and more traditional artists. Several of my 80 books on Pacific Northwest art and culture are by and/or about him.
