The Battle in the Rain from Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece Seven Samurai (1954). I have never seen rain and mud better used as dramatic elements. Pure cinematic genius.

The leader with the plate of armor tied to his forehead is the great Takashi Shimura. The agile fellow with no pants is the even greater Toshiro Mifune. (It's a loincloth.) The men on horseback are a band of brigands who have been trying to pillage the village.

"Pillage the village?" That can't be right! (H/T Groucho Marx)
