As WoTB reluctantly(?) divorces itself from reddit, some songs redolent of parting ways seems apt, not to mention other songs about other parties cutting off their noses to spite their face.

I found a reference to it in a book called The Moose That Roared: The Story of Jay Ward, Bill Scott, a Flying Squirrel, and a Talking Moose (2001) by Keith Scott.

Jay Ward made several "Flicker Songs" which were shown on the Garry Moore Show in 1966. One of them was These Boots. The time matches my foggy recollections. Jay Ward made the wonderful TV show Fractured Flickers which aired in 1963 and January 1964.

My introduction to it, weirdly enough, was reading an old comic smuggled into summer camp in which the supervillainess starts singing "I just found me a brand new box of matches" as she blows up something or other 😂

I thought she was the coolest girl ever and I badgered every adult I could find until the line rang a bell with one.

Jacques Brel sings his Ne me quitte pas (Don't leave me) in a 1961 video. He also sang this song in the 1975 film version of the musical revue Jacques Brel is alive and well and living in Paris, which is a bunch of Jaques Brel songs translated into English. Brel sang Ne me quitte pas in French in the movie. For some reason, the song was placed right after the intermission. It would have been much funnier if it was right before the intermission.
