The catnip is pretty addictive...

And we produced some of the finest grades.

You could block or not reply, or stop replying.

But never let them upset you. They're either bots, meaning not human, or paid to shill, because they need the money, or both brainwashed and immature. Meaning....no matter what, they can't help themselves.

and you got to endlessly argue for nothing, really, wasting your time, and getting upset for nothing.

In all fairness, some of us look at it like this.

Ok, so John Donne was sexist and overly concerned with one continent and with church bells. Otherwise, though, this expresses my feeling about each and every human--and also partially explains why I am so opposed to violence, including wars. (I am linking only for the poem; I've never read the commentary.)

This perspective reflects the neoliberal justifying ideology of our times. It is not objectively true nor does everyone feel this way.

Each human is an own island.

        It's just true.

And like those islands, we're all connected below the surface.

Also, just true--nonetheless, each is valuable to the others.

Except those who intentionally do great harm to their fellow humans can go fuck themselves, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not anyone you should listen to. I'm a single entity with a single opinion and that's all.

FWIW auch, I enjoy your input. We single entities make up the collective community that is WotB. We ain't perfect, but we recognize we don't need to be, and we're good like that.

No single drop of rain considers itself responsible for the flood.

        Except me.

Sorry about the flood. My bad.

Sorry about the flood. My bad.

It's all good from where I'm sitting.

Fair. What I learned is that most trolls seek the distraction over actual discussion.

So you look to engage with trolls by exposing them as frauds while having a factual argument.

I think the best course of action that worked to put me is find the fun in the engagement. Yes, I'm serious about the topics I engage with but I'm seeing how they react to different things and they have to go at my pace.

Oh, you don't like this? Why or why not?

Debates then become scientific. My observations then become analysis for the next engagement and then I push further.

All in the name of science.

I mean... Someone pinged me into anti-war where it was nothing but trolls and a few hold outs.

I've gotten blocked for questioning the MH17 takedown being by Russia, blocked go for saying the FBI lied about Russia-gate, blocked by someone for making them think and watched the trolls have to acknowledge the Donbass.

It's Fight Club up in there right now.

GJonsit and a few others are also there but the trolls are really being catfish right now.

            [–]InumaGaming Socialist 8 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

True. I'm looking for flaws and responses.

For example the entire "Russia shouldn't have invaded" response.

Poke and prod, smile and nod.

When did they invade? The answer is no longer February 24th, it's 2014 after the coup.

Why did Russia invade? The canned answer before was that Ukraine was defending itself. I poke and prod and show how no one studied the Donbass. Then I smile and nod.

Slowly, they realize the old tricks don't work.

It was real fun to watch some of the old trolls lose it on Way Reddit because they kept thinking they had the upper hand while their arguments made concession after concession.

But that's what's fun for me.

Steering a troll into a brick wall of their own making isn't for everyone.

Slowly, they realize the old tricks don't work.

Being very serious now...I don't know about that.

Knowledgeable left leaning Democrat posters were the stimulus for converting me. But only because I was serious about wanting to rebut their claims about Democrats. So, each time they posted a comment that knocked Democrats or any Democrat, I researched.

I was laid up in bed, recovering from a serious surgery at the time, so I didn't mind spending as much time on my laptop as it took. Each time, though, I would find out that the buggers were right. So, I ended up converting myself. I don't think anyone else could have converted me.

Those were unusual circumstances though. I would not research like that now.

Being very serious now...I don't know about that.

Well, some don't. But it's more a finding of your engagement level.

When they're bottom tier, I keep them there and don't engage. That's your vulgar trolls and ad hominem warriors.

Mid tier is usually the ones that will have a big belief in something and you see if they want to change their religion or not. If they give you zealot posts, the fun is watching their belief backfire as their ego gets in the way. That's your Fake William Shatners or whatnot.

High tier posters usually find their belief and will back that up with articles and such. Maybe they don't agree. But they actually respond to you and what you say. They're the diamonds in the rough. I usually don't spend much time with the vulgar and they usually weed themselves out. Mid tier, we form a relationship that has me look out for them.

The High tiers usually will change as they get the same thing. Maybe they become a Wayer or not. That's not my call. But that's how that becomes a high level engagement while I work that same magic over and over.

            [–]risistill me 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

            Sounds good.

Being forced to research did it for me. And maybe that's what your high engagement does.

            It's a tedious excercise.

Yeah but it's fun to watch others break down a bad argument, or a lack of one. They are not wasting MY time. There are folks on /WotB who are REALLY good at it. Sometimes it's entertaining (to me) to watch an artist at work.

            [–]CrazyjanecreepyjeffReality Monger 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Unfortunately I haven’t seen this as much in recent months. I see a lot quippy responses and downvotes.

            Sometimes it's entertaining

And educational to those watching and in need of a good rebuttal for later use.

You may want to try looking at it differently....

            It's a tedious excercise.

If you find it tedious, don't do it.

There is no sense in continuing a discusssion, just to ultimately win it.

"Winning the discussion" does not have to be your goal. You can set the "winning conditions" to whatever you want them to be.

The other side is paid, but we are not.

Which would mean that they have to do this. We have the option (to do or to do not) to make their job as grueling as we feel like making it.

            Waste of time.

To some, yes. To some it's a hobby.
If you find it a waste of time, don't do it. Instead, watch the ones who do not find it a waste of time using up all those hours someone is paying for. As an extra touch, every minute they pay for in here is a minute not being paid for somewhere else.

            It's a matter of perspective.

Ever seen how long you can keep a phone spammer on the phone with you, to stop them from being on the phone with someone else?
