I do get somewhat Nazi vibes from the pride flags that seems to come up everywhere and stay up all year. I wonder sometimes if in 100 years if flying pride flag might be viewed with the same kind of social dread that flying the Nazi flag today will entail.

We have to remember that the Swastika itself was a very old symbol still used in many east Asian cultures with no real negative connotations but has become so associated with the Nazis in the west that even symbols with no Nazi history that look similar are essentially going to cause offense.

I wonder if with all the government adoption of the pride flag as a symbol of equality if it won't end up being used by a fascist regime in the future and treated by our descendents in much the same way we treat the Swastika now.

I think that is a reasonable line of thinking.

I think the same thing with regards to the trans child movement. In time it will be looked upon in the way we look at lobotomy. And I don't mean that as a joke. Back in the day the people doing it thought it was legit going to help. Nowadays we shutter at the cruelty of it.

I think there comes a point where even if there is some legit medical or scientific reasoning behind such things it's important to just step back and look at the thing itself, with lobotomies they were trying to treat legitimate ailments and in some cases, even today, lobotomies are appropriate for a very small fraction of cases, but you are going in and removing part of someone's brain which to me seems like a very barbaric approach to handle mental health issues, especially if it's your go to approach, and even more so when it's literally icepick through the nose. But a full surgical lobotomy in the case where you've got someone with life threatening seizures and removing that part of the brain stops the seizures and it's preferably to death by seizure, that can be justified.

I think in the terms of the trans healthcare there's a similar phenomenon going on, there's mental distress people have for various reasons but it seems like transition is being prescribed as a catch all treatment for a number of things which I don't believe it's appropriate for. However I do think that in some cases where after strenuous psychological evaluations and the attempt of less radical treatment options there is probably some minority of people where a gender transition is likely going to result in them being happier, I just think that's a minority case and that most people who are now referred to gender clinics more have self image problems.

It's like if we decided unilaterally that the proper treatment for anorexia was affirmation and weightloss surgery on all cases.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
