This part is really annoying because police do have a problem with escalation and this is making a mockery of that problem because they are claiming that if a cop asks for your legal name then that is the cop escalating and then "justifying" violence against the cop. So if the emotionally unstable person punches a cop because they got "dead named" then the cop is going to justifiably arrest them and then spin it that the cop caused it. (Heavy Ezra Miller vibes).

Meanwhile shit like this is going to be used as a counterexample when cops get called out for actual escalation.

It's so fucking easy to deal with. Show the cop your ID. Say "My legal name is John Doe but I prefer to go by Jane Doe."

But you know, these people that hit the news are generally crazy narcissists so the goal isn't harmonious interactions with their fellow man, it's to get away with shit.
