I think the whole Israel / Palestine thing really disillusioned a lot of people on woke politics. I'm following some Jewish people who were huge proponents of EDI and men in women's spaces suddenly chafing at being labelled 'settler-colonizers'. It's funny.

It's pretty funny but it's the way this modern form of victim mentality activism goes. Eventually you'll be the oppressor.

Jews can now join with cisgendered gay men and white woman as basically being white cis-het men in the oppression Olympics.

Look, we're a visual culture, buddy. Too much stimuli, not enough time to suss it out. I'm tryna bust a nut here.

Just make it simple for me. White = bad. Black = good. White with a dress on = basically black.

If you want it to matter that you're Jewish, you need to put the star of David on a dress and put that dress on your hairy body.

The purity spiral in action. The really hilarious part is how, in spite watching it happen to others (Asians, to name one notable example), nobody who participates in this thinks that they will ever be under the crosshairs.

I mean, where'd every single element of idpol originate? real funny when one of the factions in the fights eventually gets so mad they just snap "that was 160/80 years ago! get over it!"

I'd say idpol is just a modern form of divide et impera. So it's an ancient tactic. The modern form of it in the west is basically a way to encourage the proletariat to devote their energies into fighting each other over increasingly pointless issues leaving the ruling class free to pursue their own interests, it's somewhat complicated in the US as there are two factions of the ruling class essentially but it's still essentially used as a way to keep the voters from forming blocs that would disrupt the bipartisan status quo. Early obvious examples of it come around during the civil rights movement and beyond pushing a racial discrimination narrative as a way to breed distrust between racial groups that might otherwise be in the same socio-economic categories and keep them both voting against their own interests as much as possible by using fear as the primary motivation for their voting decisions.

Stuff like non-binary identities and queer identities and the like are even better for this system as they can be created basically at whim as convenient and can be used to further keep the center of the proletariat interests from finding their majority voice and enacting significant political change.

I mean slavery was 160 years ago. The Holocaust, that was 80 years ago. Don't forget history but if you are younger than that, you can claim victimhood on behalf of your people, but I'm going to need to see personalized receipts. Otherwise you are just the same as any other citizen really.

Like you want to claim that because you are black you are a generational victim of slavery. Ok that's fine but like, how do we know that you are black? Do you have proof? You cant say "just look at me" because that would clearly be making a racial judgment based on appearance which is of course super problematic. Besides the point of how ablist it is since blind people don't have that ability. And then there's the simple fact that it's super racist to assume that just because someone was black that means their ancestors were slaves, they could have just as easily of been slave owners or slave traders. Black people can be anything they want to be.

misery poker, safetyism, saying that asking for proof is itself proof you're guilty--it's the same whether Germans, Hutu, Boers, Serbs, or South Asians are doing it, nobody's immune: Dublin wouldn't recognize the Shoah in WWII because that'd mean they'd join the Allies and have to admit Br*tain was right, and when the Armenians tried to reach out to their fellow genocide survivors, well that wouldn't make them so UNIQUE anymore, you see ...

I witnessed all this start to snowball at universities in the 1990s. The problem is that what Zakaria calls for is not going to happen because the ideologues are too deeply entrenched at all levels of the university system in faculty, administration, and admissions. They will protect their careers. Faculty will only hire new faculty that support their ideology. Only pressure from outside the existing university system can correct this.

It is possible to eradicate this nonsense top-down. It will never work bottom-up. But when common sense has even infiltrated CNN, there is hope that the real decision makers eventually get emboldened to take real action.

Wow. There is hope!
