Apparently they used an online free IQ test for this. Even so, it’s fucking hilarious because that PhD acted like a complete twat.

Maria is literally the textbook example of a midwit.

A lot of our problems today are due to too many Marias in charge of things and not enough Tylers.

A lot of research funding is predicated on the research team being “diverse”. This has meant that box ticking is rife in academia as researchers game the system in order to attract the funding they need.

I would put money on this person having gained their PhD with considerable assistance from her supervisor with the intention that she would join their research team and handle basic labwork or administrative tasks but tick the boxes for grant seeking purposes. And then she parlays that into a job at a biotech firm who wants someone to feature on their promotional material and tick the right boxes when they apply for government contracts.

Women in STEM should be furious about this shit, if they’ve earned their place legitimately people like this bint should be an insult.

Great comment and I suspect you’re right about her.

I’ll bet at her super important job, she’s given lesser critical work that can quietly be fixed by others if needed without throwing a project offline.

Ok, that’s not necessarily a new concept. However, the way that used to work was that the Marias sort of got firewalled off from anything of critical importance. The problem now is that they are now being put in charge of complex systems and institutions and we are beginning to see the effects of that. Because midwits can’t recognize when they are out of their depth. Or their egos won’t allow them to admit it.

I can also bet that any of her peers at work who saw that video weren’t surprised in the least by the result.

The Marias of the world get to start every at bat on third base and will loudly brag about how they hit a triple.

Don't forget the equally likely quid pro quo to said supervisor of "you do this piece for me, I'll suck your dick". When they're that dumb, it's almost certainly added.

For a PhD? That thesis supervisor had better have demanded full backdoor access.

More than likely it could have been arranged.

Diversity of thought should be seen as important too but it rarely is. I mean have you really got diversity when everyone there thinks the same and spouts the same rhetoric? Not saying it's the be all end all but sometimes that 'challenge' to the school of thought is what's needed to find a new path or think about things in ways you haven't before and come up with new solutions. Like I don't think she's malicious and I can understand going along with the system that gives you opportunities if you play along but it does feel like any actual diversity is removed when that happens.

The loudest mouth thought she was the smartest and ended up with the lowest score. Says everything about our current society in terms of the kinds of people who end up being touted as “leaders” and “experts”.

I’ve had the privilege of working with some insanely intelligent people in my career, and one common thing I’ve noticed about actual smart people: they keep their mouths shut unless they actually have something useful to say, they often doubt and double check their own conclusions, and they don’t feel the need to tell everyone how smart they are.

Being educated doesn’t make one intelligent. Nor does possessing certifications. It means you’re good at memorizing things other people tell you. People who feel the need to hind behind credentials are usually the dumbest of the lot.

Can confirm this 100%. That’s been my experience too when I worked in clinical research.

Years ago, I worked a woman who was dating a guy who was in Mensa. She brought him to our holiday party one year and the first thing he did when he was introduced to someone was take out his Mensa card and show it to you.

Motherfucker literally thought he was the smartest person in any room he walked into. He was so condescending.

They broke up shortly after that party, and while she never outright said it, it appeared she dumped him because of the insufferable way he acted.
