Never apologise.

If you don’t want to stand up for yourself, just keep your mouth shut. If you really must voice your opinions then be prepared to stand by them and if necessary defend them.

This “I didn’t really mean it”/“I’m educating myself” bullshit has just given the woke bullies of all flavours, because it isn’t limited to troonery, licence to trample on people and expect the media to support them.

It seems she made her comments as part a private discussion and the person she was talking to screen shot them and made them public on Twitter. You honestly have to be so careful about who and how you talk to about this stuff if you aren't just fully "out."

It doesn't sound like she completely folded:

She insisted she had nothing but love for everyone, apologising to fans who were hurt by her words, and said she would now ‘bow out’ of the conversation publicly.

Which is why I'm guessing the label is doing this; they didn't get enough self-flagellation out of her.

Yeah. It’s why people got annoyed at the film The Joker because it used infamous paedo Gary Glitter’s music in one of the iconic scenes (the staircase scene IIRC) and he therefore made large sums of money from it.

The label undoubtedly makes more per sale than she does already. They can probably performatively donate a point or two and still clear more in net income than she does.

Headline is a little nonsensical.

"Even though" isn't used that way. It's supposed to be, "Even though X, there is Y", Y being something that you wouldn't expect would follow from X. But in this case one would expect a donation to trannies to follow from an apology to trannies.

That's modern journalism for you I guess. Fuck grammar give us clicks.

It said a large part of her audience is the queers, so it seems like she pulled a bud light in the opposite direction and didn't think about who her consumers were. I agree with her statements, but if you want someone's money you should just keep your mouth shut.

Seems like she was making club music with the band Moloko since the 90s. Her fanbase is probably oldschool gays, not necessarily "queers." Media never misses an opportunity to conflate those groups for maximum damage. Searching her name on Google immediately pulls up sensationalist articles about her "transphobic comments." Typical one-two punch of lies.

As a fan of hers, I'm fairly confident in saying that her fan base is mostly millennial gays, not queers. It bothers me that she has to deal with this and potential lost revenue on her new album, although if I was a celebrity I would probably know better than to ever say anything about the TQ+ at all (positive or negative).

Ah gotcha. It's gotta really suck being a non-"queer" gay person getting lumped in with the obnoxious oversensitive crowd. I still don't know why she would say anything in the first place if she wasn't prepared to stand by it, it's not like it's a secret what happens if you say anything even remotely against trans. It's baffling that people still keep making statements and then begging for forgiveness like they didn't know that was gonna happen. Or maybe they really are just that unaware and get blindsided, I dunno.
