A woman at my work identifies as 'asexual'. She's an overweight, fake-colored hair type who talks about nothing but video games.

I think most “asexuals” are essentially people with horrid self esteem and are not conventionally attractive…

[–]Haylstorm 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

My money is more on hormone issues tbh.

Have known 2 asexuals, both of who are conventionally attractive. Just zero interest in sex/the idea of it grosses them out. Ofc maybe I've just met 2 of the sane ones. Neither of them claim to be oppressed beyond joking that things are unaffordable for one person living alone.

Congrats, you found an asexual lol

[–]Haylstorm 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Honestly they're both fun people. Never seen them make anything of it more than be polite and say it's not for them. If someone told them they were oppressed I'm fairly sure they'd both laugh in that persons face for being so stupid.

Completely unlikely. A male like that would inevitably skew incel, not ace, and a woman like that would inevitably find one male like that and latch onto them as the best she feels she could do.

Asexuals are not oppressed. They are just asexuals. Nobody cares.

I think there are people who interpret indifference as bigotry, the kinds of people who probably dream of being hate crimed because of all the attention and support it would draw.

[–]The_Best_Yak_Ever 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This exactly. They too want to be celebrated and elevated because they claim they aren’t attracted to anyone and have zero desire to have sex. But one look at what Miss Benoit decided to wear to the pride event, leads me to call bull fucking shit. But that’s beside the point anyway. Asexuals are not oppressed and us not caring about their lack of sex life does not equate to bigotry.

People like Benoit absolutely want someone to say or do something to make them feel validated in their runaway victim hood complex.

That would be the queers.

Your family asking you when you will have kids is not oppression. Get over it you fucking retarded pussies..

[–]Alienhunter糞大名 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

Plus they can just do it anyway. So you don't want to have sex? Ok whatever. So what? Find a spouse who also doesn't want to have sex, and live together happily married in a way that appears no different to anyone else unless you go out of your way to do so. Or simply don't get married and live happily alone.

Aesexual married to another aesexual and want kids? Great you can do that to. Have sex and don't enjoy it. Oh my god so terrible. It's like, how horrible that you have to do something you like aren't totally psyched about to get something you want, surely this is a great oppression up there with the great horrible oppressions like having to watch commercials on TV or having to take your shoes off at airport security on the way to your southern island vacation. The horror.

IVF would also work. ("Fun" fact: Apparently, in a decade it will be possible to get a baby without a woman being pregnant due to a machine that provides nutrients to a fertilized egg, etc. )

[–]ClassroomPast6178[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

It is way more than a decade away. Artificial wombs are such a regulatory and bioethics and liability nightmare that, even if it were possible, there is no guarantee that they would be available for actual use.

I actually think we are about a decade or two away from a surrogacy agency/surrogate being sued by the child they sold and the entire surrogacy house of cards coming tumbling down.

[–]Alienhunter糞大名 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah people have been saying it's about a decade away for about a century now.

I'd assume the idea is within the realm of possibility but I seriously doubt it will be developed within our lifetimes, perhaps merely as a prototype.

There's also the simple fact that there's little economic reason to do so.

[–]binaryblob 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I am sorry, I should have said that some expert claimed this, even though I too believe this to be wrong.

[–]ClassroomPast6178[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Don’t apologise, it’s all good. Just a friendly discussion.

[–]Haylstorm 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

There's also adoption. Not for everyone but if you're that against sex then that's an option.

[–]Alienhunter糞大名 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think it's a good option. Kids need homes.

[–]xoenix 6 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 4 fun -  (2 children)

Remember, just because you've claimed the asexual victim identity doesn't mean you have to abstain from sex.

[–]OuroborosTheory 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

they do this for every damn category that demands we weave around them thrice and close our eyes in holy dread: "okay, 'trans' ALSO includes people who don't have the overwhelming urge to change sexes, so it can be a straight couple if they dye or shave their hair," "'nonbinary' doesn't mean that we OWE you performativity" (i.e., they don't act or dress even slightly different)

[–]LyingSpirit472 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well, yeah. It has been established for "queer is a deviation from the norm", which has made the queer paradox: By that, queer can add basically any human being except Donald Trump...but, since Trump is a deviation from the norm of being queer, that makes Trump the single biggest queer on earth.

[–]ClassroomPast6178[S] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

In today’s climate, many people like to claim that they are part of a marginalised group. This can offer a shortcut to deferential treatment, endless attention and even media opportunities. But how can you portray yourself as oppressed when you don’t really have much to gripe about? Adopting a trans identity could work. But transitioning seems like an awful lot of effort and commitment. And declaring yourself ‘nonbinary’ is a bit 2019.

This brings me to an individual named Yasmin Benoit. She describes herself on her Twitter profile as an ‘award-winning asexual activist’ and ‘founder of the UK’s first asexual-rights initiative’. Benoit marched at the London Pride parade last weekend. She then tweeted an image of herself waving the ‘asexual pride’ flag (yes, that’s a real thing), while stating:

‘Asexual people deserve equal rights. We deserve legal recognition. We deserve protection. Thank you Stonewall for allowing me to march with you again at Pride in London today and for helping me to bring about this change.’

This perplexing declaration was then shared by Stonewall, the largest LGBT rights organisation in Europe, to its near 260,000 Twitter followers.

The tweet raises a number of questions. For one, in what ways are asexual people being denied equal rights? Which legal protections are they lacking? What specific ‘change’ is Benoit attempting to bring about, other than an increase in her own profile?

The ‘A’ for ‘asexual’ is currently sandwiched in between ‘I’ for ‘intersex’ (a medical condition) and ‘2S’ for ‘two-spirit’ (a nonsense).

Pretty sure the 2S is for demonic possession. The actual reason to push the "they" "them" pronouns.

Hidden in plain sight.

Oppressed by who? lol

[–]ClassroomPast6178[S] 5 insightful - 5 fun5 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

All those Ace-bashers that are roaming the streets. Nothing I like more than downing a couple of six packs and then going out to find a greysexual or noetisexual to beat the crap out of. Just last week I kicked the absolute shit out of a cupiosexual, they’re like Pokémon-you gotta catch (and beat) them all.

Their family members who ask them if they plan to get married and have children 😂

To be fair, if someone tells me they are an asexual I will happily oppress them.

I went through this nonsense with all my nerd friends 20 years ago. Now they are all married and I'm single.

[–]Haylstorm 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (14 children)

lmao this is reminding me of people 'telling' me I was asexual at points. Nah man I just don't feel the need to horny post for the world to see. Doesn't make me asexual, just means I keep that stuff private with my boyfriend.

[–]bucetao6969Ace Spectrum 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (13 children)

People don't really know what asexual is.

[–]Haylstorm 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (10 children)

Honestly it's so weird to me. Like some people having this attitude that if you're not permanently thirsting after someone and letting them know there's something wrong with you.

I do think there's an element of that to it, that people might believe them or think they're not normal for not wanting to permanently go at it. Even though that IS normal. The porn addicts that can't go 30 mins without something are the weird ones tbh.

[–]bucetao6969Ace Spectrum 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

What I found most of the time people don't care. When my family asks me "are you planning to marry" or "do you have a girlfriend" they just wanna struck conversation, if it was any other topic it would be the same like college, jobs etc. So when someone says "I'm not into that", people are surprised, but they don't care much about it at the end of the day.

[–]Haylstorm 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

Yeah it's often filler conversation. Like "terrible weather isn't it?".

I was mostly thinking of the online crowd which seems to care far too much in some cases.

Only asexual reddit.

"How dare my romantic partners want to have sex with me????" I tried arguing most people are sexual and we are not the normality but they wouldn't have it.

[–]Haylstorm 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

I'll admit Reddit really confuses me there where you have asexual, aromantic people looking at opening their relationship. Like Excuse me do you know what those words mean?

How they can be surprised that humans are sexual is just wild. It's built in to most people.

[–]bucetao6969Ace Spectrum 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

No, they know but they don't accept it. It's like trans woman wanting straight men magically being attracted to them. It's why I just suggest them to do A&A like I suggest trans people doing T&T, you better keep to your own people

I'll admit Reddit really confuses me there where you have asexual, aromantic people looking at opening their relationship. Like Excuse me do you know what those words mean?

Being an aromantic individual, it's easy explaining this. You are in a relationship but you don't love the other person. If you marry it could also be a sort of "roleplay", where you experience what loving-having people experience in a roleplay way.

Though I'm aromantic, the comfort of being in a relationship with someone is still nice and a relationship has better financial security so I completely understand aromantics marrying.

Here's the thing though. Asexual means different things to different people. Even the most asexual people that feel no horny and have no sex at all, can still have sex eg when they want to have children. There's also the asexuals who take the meaning of the word that feel no horny but still have sex because they enjoy it which would technically make them asexual. It's why I prefer to say I'm on the asexual spectrum (as for my flair) because I can't bring myself to fully commit to the asexual title as I only fit into parts of it instead of the whole thing. I'm def aromantic though.

Oh this is why there's also the "true asexuals" reddit. Apparently if you're aromantic that feel horny and have sex, even though you're part of the community, they don't welcome you. The community is as bad as you think it is.

But that's also the same problem; if it's a spectrum, that just leads to the "I'm a vegan, I love steak. We exist" problem with it. People can respect "I'm not interested in sex or romance" as perfectly fine, and if anything it's the people saying "I am asexual, even though I have sex, I love sex, I seek out sex, and honestly, I'm one of those stereotype characters from Fatal Fury who hump lampposts if they can't find a partner- but I'm still totally asexual, so let me be part of the cool kids' club!" who are oppressing asexuals more than anything.

I bet most people don't even know what an asexual is, when compared to a trans person.

"Aphobia" is pretty funny. "You haven't found your soulmate yet" is opression?

[–]UncleWillard56 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

None of these people are being oppressed. Their rights are covered under the same rights as any other citizen and only dependent on what country you live in. What extra rights do they need that aren't already covered? The only ones I can think of are special rights just for them. Sorry about your luck fucktards, you're not special.
