Looking back, the building blocks of this have been being placed for a while. The pseudo-feminist 'theybe' trend laid some of the groundwork for the obsession with gender. The adoption of social media allowed bad ideas to spread rapidly and conditioned people for groupthink. Caitlin Jenner appears to have been a tipping point wherein everyone got the message that trans was cool (even though Jenner is hated by the trans mob now).

John Money was the beginning of it. It's no surprise to me that under his care, two adults died from suicide after he experimented on them, just like 41 percent do today. It never caught on until fairly recently. There were always trannies, but they were truly marginalized back then and were out of the spotlight.

They weren't adults when he was doing his pedo incest experiments.

In some ways they were probably more accepted. There were positive representations of transexuals in the media. I remember loving 'Too Wong Foo Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar'. Now those movies couldn't get made today because the actors identify as men. I encountered transexual men in the office and in public and you were just quietly respectful. Yeah it's a bit funny, and they're a bit sad, but they weren't imposing themselves on anyone so everyone just kinda minded their own business. Nowadays most of the trans people I see look like they're spoiling for a fight, or watch way too much porn.

There were definitely a lot of building blocks.

You cannot deny that the tabula rasa/blank slate nonsense of the social constructionists didn’t have a massive role in developing gender identity theory and feminists were massively involved in pushing that stuff, because it removed all the pesky biological sex differences - meaning all inequalities were down to patriarchy - which complicated their arguments about women and men. But in heavily pushing that shit they opened the door for the devil of troonery and invited him into the stall with his ladypenis. Are they to blame for it all, absolutely not, but I still have feminist friends who adamantly refuse to admit there are biological differences between men and women (except for the baby making equipment).

There will no doubt be future PhD theses written on the causal elements of troonery, and someone will synthesise all the disparate social sciences and humanities pieces that lead us down this road. Hopefully they also compile a list of all the people who bear responsibility for the industrial abuse of children that it is bringing about.
