I wouldn't say zero relevancy. Back before TiA went into the deep end of the shit-filled pool by covering the full spectrum of IdPol insanity, there were posts showing pretty clear links between the mindset around being (and, more importantly, validating someone else's being) otherkin and increasingly more politicized identities. I'm not saying otherkin directly led to this, mind, but more the way of thinking that made it appealing.

Hand in hand with that, there were people who definitely hunted among otherkin for converts to their particular causes, in much the same way that troons now groom confused gay boys and girls with their particular rhetoric.

I remember for a brief moment Otherkin types were playing the identity politics game. They tried to push the idea of human/non-Otherkin privilege, clearly didn't take off. Then there was anti-Otherkin = ableism. Eventually once Fictionkin became a big thing they tied in stuff like race, sexuality, and eventually gender. God forbid the Anime character you're larping as doesn't 100% match you as a person.

anti-Otherkin = ableism.

So they were calling themselves mentally ill?

What a self-own lol

Yes. In Tumblr logic being mentally ill was good. No wonder the world is so fucked now.

Generally I think it's just having a lack of common sense, or having such an open mind your brains fall out.

I've known a number of furries and the like from college and they fall into the "I accept I have this weird fetish and just don't talk about it with normal people that don't get it, I just wanna be left alone.' and the "this is my whole life and I'm going to he weird about it"

The former are normal and more or less good people you'll get along with, they dislike the latter, I prefer the latter because they are more entertaining to watch (from a considerable distance).

It's a basic fact of group dynamics, true of the gays, religious types, politics, sports, hobbies, anything, allow one aspect of your personality to wholely dominate your life and you'll be a social pariah quickly.

allow one aspect of your personality to wholely dominate your life and you'll be a social pariah quickly.

At that point, the pro move is to make your one aspect worth a shitton of oppression points, at which point the social pariahs are the ones who don't immediately get on their knees and adore you.

This isn't surprising at all, as there's a clear overlap between otherkin and other idpol groups.

Idpol snowflake identities are like fetishes: they cluster together, which is due to the people who buy into them wanting to get more and more oppression points to flaunt around.

Being "opressed" is a virtue after all, isn't it?!
