I suspect it's not just diet, and a huge part of the problem is lifestyle choices that seem inconsequential otherwise. For example the fact that most people spend a lot of time sitting down... humans didn't evolve to be in that position for lengthy periods of time over many decades as we do. Another one that isn't that talked about is soft beds, which over time fails to promote healthy blood flow and fluid movement between muscles and fat. Soft beds also promote bad sleeping positions which further add to hurting blood flow and such.

All of these combined, including bad diet, and you get a rapid deterioration of the body, which most people then turn to pharma for help and of course they fix it via brute force with drugs, machines and intervention as oppose to helping the body return to its natural equilibrium.

The not sitting down thing is a myth.

Hunter/gatherers do indeed spend most of their days sat on their arses.

What there is is a difference between active and passive sitting so sitting and doing something active with hands or reaching around is different to sitting zoned out in front of the TV or scrolling.

This has been found after standing desks did nothing to make people healthier, because there's a similar thing with active and passive standing. If you stand there scrolling for hours it's worse than sitting and moving.

Right, I think specifically it's chairs where you can lean back and relax which are the problem (along with a lifestyle that uses them all the time). This does include cars, so that's one major way people end up spending lots of time in that position. I agree, an active sitting probably nullifies the bad effects.

that most people spend a lot of time sitting down

Just got back from camping, feel recently experienced with primitive living. I feel like it was probably a waste for men to do a lot of the work because our effort is generally a lot more expensive metabolically. Thus the division between man work, the hard and dangerous stuff, and woman work - the rest of it that can be done at a cheaper calorie cost and with lower quality food since they don't need as much animal protein.

I doubt ancient man was more active than he had to be, if for no other reason than the logistics of obtaining sufficient nutrition back then.

soft beds

Really missed my soft bed too.
