Wrong.

Most people have been brainwashed to obey and trust "authority" and "experts".

The corporatocracy and their media perpetually lie and steal from us.

If you had a girlfriend or roommate like that you would have kicked them out right away.

Contrary to what you said, "first you have to prove that its a lie, not just believe it because you were told," I propose:

" First 'they' have to prove that it's all true, not just have us blindly believe it because they told us so. "

Typically, so far all we've got is a lot of intentional confusion. The more countering accounts and confusion, the more likely it's a deception psyop. When it's a fact it's clear. The reporters never confuse a baseball game score, yet they can't get any of these figures correct, meaning they're shit at their job or they're corrupt as fuck. I might subscribe to Hanlon's razor if the mistakes were 50/50 but they aren't and always err in their favour.
