Removing the protections for online platforms in Section 230 would be terrible for free speech. I'm right there with you in criticizing the tech monopolies and their censorship, but the solution is to stop using them, not giving the govt the authority to police the internet.

forcing them to abide by free speech would not be terrible for free speech, lol

Private companies should not be forced to host content against their will. Even Saidit has rules, and certain things that are permitted under the First Amendment are not allowed to be posted here.

Second, and the initial point I was making, is that powers granted to the government are inevitably abused down the road. Giving them the authority to control platforms, even if it is ostensibly to "force them to abide by free speech" will almost certainly have negative consequences. We're talking about a government who openly engages in propaganda and manipulation, and you want to give them more power?

yes, they should. and the government forcing monopolies to not do anything beyond what is legally-binding is a source of greater freedom, not greater control. why do you assume that organizations with track-records of unending bias & censorship are better just when/cause they're private? 😏 why do you think the state exists, if not to do stuff for the common good that cannot be done by anything else? lolbertarian spotted

Your faith in government is blind.

it isn't at all, tho. we should force government to force this

All governments are as bent as a boomerang and will just as soon help you as hit you in the back of the head.

there's zero difference between how the bulk of the gov & huge liberal corps like Facebook are bent - but at least the gov is somewhat under the influence of voters, around half of which oppose biglib censorship

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Your rulers have been selected for you not elected.

The left-right paradigm is just a system of control, and if you can see that then you'll seem crazy to others who still believe the patriotic dogma.

Voting is a joke with over 40 ways to rig any election https://infogalactic.com/info/Truther#Voting_is_a_joke but the ultimate joke is both the left and right wings belong to the war hawk business party. No matter which direction, NorthWest or NorthEast, tacking between the two, we're always forced northward towards tyranny.

Your vote does not matter. Read about the Princeton study: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oligarchy#United_States

When is Trump going to drain the swamp? He's hired the swamp. And he hasn't locked her up, nor war criminal Obama nor Bush nor Clinton. It's a mafia state, not unique to the USA. ALL GOVERNMENTS OF THE WORLD ARE EVIL. So are all large corporations. They're in bed together, the corporatocracy of pedo oligarchs.

Trump got elected against the entire Establishment. and ofc he had to moderate his radicalism somewhat to manage to get anything done, and is far from perfect or not cooptable. maybe he'll take bolder action next term, tho.
