Well I thought I could just copy and paste it straight into Google like I do with every other language but then my cursor started going backwards.

Hebrew is read right to left

Yeah, but I didn't expect it to automatically change my settings.

I'm pretty sure when I've done the same with Arabic in the past that didn't happen.

It doesn't change your settings. It only applies to the Hebrew characters.
