Oh man, I quit caffeine years ago because of my blood pressure. It's disgusting how awake people are in the morning. It did sort of happen in a way, they changed the legal smoking age in the US to 21 with no grandfather clause so every legal smoker 18-20 one day last year just couldn't legally buy smokes. That messed with a lot of people, nicotine withdrawal sucks too.

after spending a day getting yelled at.

Work? I once had an Office Space esque job with five different bosses. Except they don't all yell at you just for screwing up, they all yelled all the time cause each wanted things done their way so no matter what I did 4 people yelled at me.

I wasn't a day drinker until that job. It was miserable.

The idea that I could go weeks hating life, sober, without alcohol... Yeahno. Hell no. The idea gives me a panic attack just thinking about it. Fuck that. There's not a thing in the world that would make me change my mind.

I had to (mostly) quit for a year because of my liver. It sucks for the first few months and then mostly it's just boring. I had no illusions I was gonna stay dry longer than I had to. Unfortunately I probably need another break already. Fucking liver. Lost a woman that was really important to me, drank herself to death.

Similar scenario except it's one person with emotional problems and a crappy memory so bad you'd think he was 5 people. Stuck there for another 2 years because of legal crap. At the same time, he wishes he could fire me, but that would require me screwing up first, otherwise I'd leave with $45k, so lol.

drank herself to death.

Yeah, I'm terrified of that. I've managed to pull back to three times a week and making sure to not do them all in a row. Longest I've managed to go was 6 days. I can't wait until I can hang up on him mid-scream, call him back, then hang up again just to let him know he's no longer in control.

Regular blood work is important although you can have end stage chirossis without elevated liver enzymes. A pain in the side seems to be a pretty common indicator something is going wrong. Ultrasound/MRI if you've got good health insurance.

But really I think it's mostly genetic. Some people like me drink heavily for decades before anything goes wrong, my friend who died only drank a pint of vodka a day.
