He did it to his subs. SaidIt is the community.

I don't agree with his actions, but if he's the mod then...

      What's the point of mods?

      Why have any private subs?

And why is /s/Journalism now private?

We don't know what the reasons actually were, though admittedly it seems personal.

I'd like to set up some bots, sooner or later. /s/SaidItBots was a start to discussion policies, openness, and actual implementation. I'm presently too distracted and need to focus on my main project, among others, so I shouldn't take on more now, otherwise I'd ask to pick you brain.

I don't know enough about SaidIt private subs other than they exist. I'm only on one that you should be on too, /s/WhiteOwlSocialClub that IMO you should be invited to by /u/NPC.

I was mod of /s/Journalism for a while because I was invited though I never knew why specifically other than he wanted backup though I never moderate anyone. I made a banner and applied a CSS to it, but left because of M7's arbitrary limit of 40 subs max. I didn't post much there, but now that censorship is rampant, journalists are being attacked, and corruption is more rampant than ever, it seems a critical sub to post in.
