Whew we finally got the OK from our server company that we've resolved the issue. They did say this:
Please note that any attempts to host this site under a different name or any substantially similar services on [server company]'s platform after receiving this ticket may result in your account being suspended or terminated.
So no URL forwarding ever again and we're good. Glad that is finally over.
