I've been accused of being a shill by Tom as well because I disagreed with him once or twice. Which is odd in retrospect since I'm mostly aligned with many of his points. Haven't looked into the Chipit accusations all that much, figured was just another one of Tom's witch hunts which entails a lot of harassment. While time consuming, I've found it better to relentlessly pick apart a shills arguments than resort to incessant name calling.

    i have always thought that it would be a huge improvement if the OP had the privilege to ban users from posting in his threads.

    I agree that at first glance this does sound like a reasonable potential solution.

    Unfortunately, this would effectively equate to custom censorship at the OP level. This would be even worse than the Admin/Mod censorship, because everyone could do it. Increased suppression of communication/ideas.

    How do you know if someone has a better idea, if the information is suppressed?

    this would allow people to start conversation threads and avoid having people shit all over their threads.
