Didn't Joseph Smith submit The Book of Mormon to publishers as SciFi but was rejected and decided to try to start his own religion?

I'm almost positive that was the Scientology dude, L. Ron Hubbard. Though IIRC the Book of Mormon origin story was equally if not even more ridiculous. The South Park guys did an episode retelling it a while back that I remember being quite amused by

Tom Cruz and John Travolta are both in the closet and won't come out. 😁 —— Robert Heinlein and L. Ron Hubbard were talking about religion and Hubbard bet Heinlein that he could start his own religion and then did, sorta. Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about the scientology one, lmao. There was a full episode about Joseph Smith and the Mormons too that I was actually thinking of. Google tells me its Season 7 Episode 12, so I guess that was 20 years ago, lol. They've parodied just about everything at this point I guess
