The pseudoscientific claims of satanic child abuse that destroyed the lives of some of the accused, and damaged the development of the children that were coerced into giving false testimony.

Covid and Vaccine denial also vilified rational people, and caused harm by allowing the disease to spread. But it is nowhere near as extensive. I've heard people advocate for the truly idiotic position that Fauci should be charged with various crimes, but this is fringe. Society in general is nowhere near far enough removed from reality that that could happen, and a court could find scientists guilty as people were during the satanic panic.

So while the hysteria is certainly present, without something like religion backing it, it's just some crackpots barking at shadows.

Fauci was and is admired by the HIV activists for his humanity, his science, and his ability to listen, and then fight with them for changes to the policy that they needed.
