They're not. Leftists are. But you knew that already.

This is one of Saidit's paid poster accounts, if anyone doesn't know already.

And leftists are liberals...

Nope. Different as salt and sugar. Leftists despise liberals, just ask them.

They really aren't, any more than Democrats are the only Americans that believe in democracy.

Liberal =/= Left

There was a time where the left was MORE liberal than the right which was comparatively conservative.

But neither title has been particularly accurate since at least 2016, but arguably the switch started in the 90s.

Libertarians are probably the most liberal party today, but even they don't accurately represent it.

You cannot be anti-capitalist or anti-free speech and accurately call yourself liberal. If you refer to the modern left as liberal, congratulations you are perpetuating the left's favorite tool these days, which is dictating changes to language and the definitions of words. Stop it.

Do you even know what the word liberal means?

[–]Alienhunter 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I know it is basically meaningless in online discussions. It either means "stupid people I don't like" or "the righteous defenders against fascism" depending on who you ask.

What the fuck does it actually mean? I thought it was supposed to mean "people who believe in using government resources liberally" as opposed to a conservative who "wants to conserve government resources and not use them liberally"

Most supposed liberals are conservative on some issues and very liberal on others, as are most supposed conservatives. American liberals seem very conservative when it comes to environmental resources and american conservatives seem supremely liberal when it comes to military resources.

So what does the word liberal even mean in the popular discourse? Seems about as meaningless as "fascist" or "racist" or whatever other labels get thrown about as a means of obscuring discussion and eliciting an emotional response.

'liberal' is a misused term - think 'progressives'/neo-commies both flavors of leftism
