Or there really are shadow people we don't see unless we tune our minds a certain way. People on DMT see elfin deities. Why do people keep seeing these same things with similar experiences if there isn't something to it.

Very true! There are repeat stories of entities or spiritual presence witnessed on various drugs such as DMT. On mushrooms it's like seeing the spirit of nature itself, bringing personifications to all living things. One I heard of is a female figure luring a person to a certain direction when experiencing the delerium of Datura. A common one I'm more familiar with myself are the introspective effects of closed eye visuals such as a figure with multiple faces and eyes alongside an avatar of some kind when on 2C's, I like to think this is the visual representation of our inner psyche. Maybe these things open a gateway to see things we are biologically programmed to ignore.

Or maybe brainwashed into not seeing. Ever wonder what a small child's "imaginary" friends are? They get told they're not real often enough by people with sufficient authority, while their minds are so easily imprinted that it could readily constitute a form of very effective brainwashing.
