Increasing popular acceptance of outright censorship of dissent is the greatest tragedy in the west. Our entire culture since the enlightenment (1700s) came into being only because we allowed people to disagree and argue over trends in society. That culture provided the most broad-based wealth of any society the world has ever seen. Perfect, of course not. Perfect equality is a dangerous pipe dream. But censorship is a model that has clearly demonstrated its correlation with poverty and class division for thousands of years, and it's always promoted with the old and tired lie that it will provide precisely that which it destroys: fairness.
