That's Leviticus 21:16-23

16 The Lord said to Moses, 17 “Say to Aaron: ‘For the generations to come none of your descendants who has a defect may come near to offer the food of his God. 18 No man who has any defect may come near: no man who is blind or lame, disfigured or deformed; 19 no man with a crippled foot or hand, 20 or who is a hunchback or a dwarf, or who has any eye defect, or who has festering or running sores or damaged testicles. 21 No descendant of Aaron the priest who has any defect is to come near to present the food offerings to the Lord. He has a defect; he must not come near to offer the food of his God. 22 He may eat the most holy food of his God, as well as the holy food; 23 yet because of his defect, he must not go near the curtain or approach the altar, and so desecrate my sanctuary. I am the Lord, who makes them holy.’”

But it's talking about an order of priests that tend to a temple, not people getting into heaven.

Dumbest article I've read in a while. I have tattoos. Not only am I a veteran of the USN, but I also served as a Police Dispatcher and 911 Operator. Add to that I'm a single dad of three (I got the kids) and have never collected a dime in unemployment in my 57 years on the planet. Another example of cart before the horse. People get tattoos for all kinds of reasons, even being fucked up mentally. However, in every case, they were who they were and will be that same person after the tattoo. Maybe, just maybe, let's research those root causes instead of low-hanging fruit.

People think poverty causes crime (actually the rate of criminality is pretty steady at every earning level) but you don't see the people working 3 jobs stealing or raping as much as those with no job and the same amount of benefits.

This does have an effect, and you assume there are jobs for everyone who wants one.

Where I live, in California, Governor Gavin Newsom shut down almost every private business for coofid for 9 months, many did not survive. Add inflation on top of that. We have had a HUGE increase in petty crimes like stolen catalytic converters, flash mob store thefts, car break ins, etc etc. We literally put people in a position where they cannot legally earn a living, and it definitely caused a massive increase in these types of crimes.

Being financially free is desirable. But as much as a man wants to be free from owing money to have a place to live, he still has the government requiring property tax. I thank God that I have been able to pay the tax each year so far. For my property in Arkansas, that's about $2,100 per year ($175 per month).
We don't really own our houses and vehicles, but rent them from the government. If we fail to pay the annual property tax, they may seize and claim the property as their own.

Dude Mark's outfit had me laughing. He's wearing a hype-beast costume with the least tasteful/fashionable clothing (just the hype brands) on purpose, I didn't expect that! Dude has such a good personality and outlook, the majority of the OG skaters who are still around rly give off good vibes. I honestly watch these videos 2, especially with older skaters. It makes me nostalgic in a happy way - not bittersweet - everything was so simple back then. Also, always loved Krooked, Toy Machine, Spitfire & even Dark Star (always built my decks with with reds bearings, independent trucks & spitfire wheels!). For a while tho, I skated element lol.

And yeah, what's going on with Bam is fucking sad. This isn't new - this has been a continuous episode since Ryan Dunn died. The fucked up shit is the 30 different medications he had to take daily to be on JackAss, and then his drug and drinking problems too. I feel like if Bam were in a room alone, just sitting or eating, and that CKY song played he'd just roll into a ball and start crying lol. I just feel bad tbh.

And dude that's how I found about Bucky, he was on a Vert tape! Growing up I had a group of a friends and we all skated; our street was the meetup/skate spot when we had no where to go, as another friend literally lived across the street from me (he was the best skater in our group tbh, I'll take 2nd place 😇), & his 2 older brother's skated and had friends who skated. After school, you'd be sitting on our block on a board talking and then randomly another friend would come rolling onto the block and just walk in one of our houses lol everyone was at home. That lifestyle affected me in such a large way - hanging with older kids, watching skate/snowboard (K2!) videos with them whenever they got new ones (and actually skating hard to impress the older kids), using their equipment like rails and mini-ramps.

I always picked Bucky in Tony Hawk 1 & 2 cuz his vert stats were near cheating lol.

I don't skate all crazy like I used to either (I don't have any frens who skate ne more, they're 2 grown up!), but I like going for night skates. Like 2-4 AM. The streets are completely empty in my city, and the streets are on a curve like they are in ur OP vid, it's really fun having the whole street to yourself and just going out at night with music and speed. With my streets, you can really surf and swerve back and forth at high speeds due to their shape and no cars being around. I remember being a lil kid on the highway and dreaming of skating on the highway with no cars on it, having it all to myself lol.

I'd love to skate with Mark for a night lol.

Sry for the rant/essay, u brought out the memoriez.

Then he wanted to have a dead man’s donor arms transplanted onto him (I can understand why someone would want real arms again, to feel, sensation, but donor arms??! Taking anti-rejection and immune-represent drugs for the rest of your life so your body doesn’t reject the arms?!).

Imagine being touched by another persons arms and fingers.. who is dead? Frankenstein’d onto another person? She was against it and still sat by his side, afraid the whole 16 hour surgery and getting updates every two hours, not sleeping.

Next chapter, he comes home, and the nerves and muscles have to heal. He literally has to call her each time he needs his ass wiped, or his teeth brushed for a year (when that wasn’t a problem before when he met her with the prosthetics rather than the arm transplants). You truly have to love someone to care for them like that.

She’s also pretty and seems to have an awesome personality to top it all off, he’s a lucky guy (in some ways, with all due respect)! I just can’t for the life of me understand why he didn’t opt for robotic arm and leg transplants when they’re really starting to become something and have been for the last few years; he wouldn’t have risked the pain, death from surgery, or put his significant other through what he did (although she was fine with it - and he felt terrible about it).

And to me, most important of all, they’re not some dead dudes donor arms, I don’t have to take 6 pills every morning that affect my renal system and other organs, or suppress my immune system - I just have brand new robotic arms, customized for me, I don’t feel but each finger works and I can apply varying degree of pressure - so much less creepy, so much more viable. I just don’t see the allure to the path he’s chosen outside of regaining some sensation again, possibly.

Odd medical path overall to recovering himself, nothing but respect for his powerful mindset and courage.

Living with Epilepsy - Seizures, Doctors & Anxiety - This is one of the best videos I’ve seen to describe the epileptic experience (it aligns with mine, especially with how psychedelic my seizures feel, the feeling of increasing inescapable “impending doom” & what my triggers are). by [deleted] in Life

Migraines and epilepsy are kinda similar in some ways! They’re glitches in certain parts of the brain brought on by negative stimuli and usually involve swelling. Meds that work for one or the other, also usually help interchangeably, especially drugs that are anti inflammatory like cannabis or Diclofenac.

This drug is not well known in the US, but it’s the only NSAID that crosses the blood brain barrier, enters the CNS, and reduces brain swelling (which is involved in both seizures and migraines), I love it honestly (the lowest dose, 50 mg, literally gets rid of brainzaps/partial seizures within 15 min, and better than klonopin/benzos for sure). It’s just very strong so the max dose is 150 mg a day, which is fucking high; that’s the equivalent of your daily dose of ibuprofen.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diclofenac

If you’ve never heard of this medicine, it could help you!

An additional indication is the treatment of acute migraines.[15] Diclofenac is used commonly to treat mild to moderate postoperative or post-traumatic pain

Studies are also coming out on its anticonvulsant properties:

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/306922538_Effect_of_diclofenac_sodium_on_seizures_and_inflammatory_profile_induced_by_kindling_seizure_model

The treatment with diclofenac sodium, in the PTZ induced kindling model, decreased severity of seizures and interleukin-6 and TNF-α levels in the hippocampus of animals treated with doses of 5 and 10 mg/kg. New studies are needed to investigate a new therapeutic approach in the treatment of epilepsy with this anti-inflammatory non-steroidal drug.

Yeah, there are people who don’t get auras.. I feel really bad for them.. at least I know it’s coming. And god forbid those people are insistent on getting a drivers license, find a new neuro and lie to him and take benzos or something to make their eeg look semi-normal.. not only will they kill themselves if they go out in the car, they’ll kill a lot of people.. I never, ever drive if I’m not feeling well. I wouldn’t be able to live with the fact that I killed people over traveling for no reason.

The only psychedelic I’ve ever had is ketamine at a doctors office, I fucking hated it. Because of epilepsy, I don’t like the feeling of not being in control of my body - it scares me. This is partially why I don’t drink alcohol period.

This is likely a migraine (believe it or not they have auras and can make you feel strange too!), if not they could be partial seizures that aren’t spreading (which is good). Do you feel “brain zaps”, like electricity/glitches in reality?

Only sure-fire way to know what that is, is to get an EEG. While having an eeg, they run many tests on you. It’s like a torture device lol.

They flash lights in your face at increasing and decreasing speeds, put head phones on you that have this loud as woodpecker sound get louder and louder, switching slowly from one headphone to the other, until that shit makes you dizzy.. you also have to hyperventilate for 5-10 minutes, which is the worst. My body shakes like a mother fucker uncontrollably (doesn’t feel seizure related), after forced intense hyperventilating (they tell you to go as hard as possible, it’s not like being out of breath from running, you breath in fast and hard, breath out fast and hard).

But yeah dude, an eeg would tell for sure even if you’re feeling partials. I suspect it’s migraines tho, and those are no fun either! I believe eegs can measure those too, not sure.

Edit: you should check my comment above about:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diclofenac

It’s not a psychoactive or scheduled drug so a doctor would have no problem prescribing it. It could improve your quality of life!

I get a weird psychedelic feeling if I'm under fluorescents or stare at a CRT too long. No loss of consciousness though. Sounded like micro seizures to me, but never sought treatment for it. It's mildly annoying but that's about it.

It’s like trying to find a needle in a hay stack, a good doctor who treats you with respect, listens, and pays attention to you, your weight, how you look, is willing to run different tests, and prescribe what helps

A-fucking-men.

Sounds like it could be a bad acid trip. When I was a kid, a guy about to walk past me suddenly fell flat on his face. Having a warning that it's about to happen would make a huge difference. That poor guys face had obviously been smashed flat many times before, and having your head repeatedly hit the ground like that has got to be bad for you.

Dude you have no idea how bad my life has been with doctors (the only reason some doctors believed is because they saw it, physically and measured it with multiple eegs). I laughed when I read your comment (just remembering some of the assholes I had to go through as a late teen who thought I was a stupid kid who wanted nothing more than to get high off benzos, which ironically, I can’t feel because of my type of epilepsy. My GABA-A receptors are mutated).

This video is half the length and is shorter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaxJzSUn3PM

It too, pretty much accurately describes my experience except it doesn’t sound as scary from his perspective unless he’s holding back. One of the worst parts of having a seizure disorder (really, what epilepsy is - epilepsy is just a blanket term for seizure disorders which vary from individual to individual), is how stigmatized and uneducated people are as to how terrible it actually feels, before and after. I’ve met many ignorant people who thought the fact that I developed epilepsy meant my cognitive or intellectual abilities were impaired (I mean they are, but that’s not from epilepsy, I’m just a natural-born retart).

It feels like the most insidious, evil psychedelic drug, before and after, and waking up from it is horrible - for the first 30-60 min you don’t know where you are, who you are, what reality or earth even is, until you just snap to at a moment in time. Going into it the confusion and deja vu are intense, and it feels like you’re being chased by something more evil than evil. And during the experience, you’re literally in a black void. You have no thoughts. No feelings or emotions. All I know for sure is there’s blackness, but you don’t think. You aren’t fine or not fine with the situation as nothing matters, you can’t think. There is no you. Some part just recognizes there’s a darkness and it can feel like forever, which feels like what leads to part of the confusion when coming to.

Just thought people would find this interesting as it isn’t often talked about and seizures are very stigmatized. They don’t affect you intellectually, and brake dancing isn’t as fun or funny as it looks tbh. I can respect a good seize the day joke tho.

I made this our “new second announcement” - we’ve had the Lao Tzu video up there for over a year now as our second announcement (which I still recommend anyone who comes across this to check out, it relates to this in some ways too!), and I like this video a lot - It truly is great life advice I think everyone could benefit from.

I hope anyone who comes across this gets some benefit from both the OP & Lao Tzu video!

Perhaps you'd like to create the next one on my list: /s/Wellbeing - which is similar to /s/Life, /s/Solutions, /s/DIY, /s/GetMotivated, and others in the sidebox of /s/Fulfillment, yet distinct enough to warrant it's own sub IMO. I don't come across much content like that but hope for some. I'd rather have quality over quantity.

Also, /u/zyxzevn, /u/LarrySwinger2, and others had some other good ideas that aren't exactly /s/MentalHealth, but are certainly related - and there's another sub worth making if I could collect my thoughts, and theirs, and at least come up with a few options for names in hopes we find a better one. I'd get into more details but I'm trying to focus on my /s/LeverMind project for the next couple months before 9/11's 20th.

What a bunch or retards. For one thing it's not like anyone is dying because they aren't getting enough doughnut in their diet. If anything doughnuts are going to send you to the grave faster. As well private corporations do what they to do to maximize profits, and the potential liability and cost of dealing with old food is greater than the cost having made that food. It's doughnuts, they make them by the thousands and the marginal cost of a few extra is minor.

These idiots could contribute to society by volunteering at a local pet shelter for example, but gee who'd want to watch a video of them mopping out cages? So instead they manufacturing outrage over literally nothing and then stick out their chests proudly as if they've done something that actually matters. It's like watching a 3 YO happily chow down on boogers.

Idk.. I feel some type of way about seeing all this food thrown out, even if it is perishable..

Call me a socialist/commie/whatever, I really could care less about teams in the political world theater at this point, but I really feel states should have some kind of state-funded program in agreement with certain places, who purposefully over-produce a certain amount of food. They could collect, re-seal and date the product on the back so you know if it’s safe to distribute or not (they are also protected from law suits via the good samaritan act), and could have centers where the food could be redistributed that next morning. This would also create new jobs.

If certain places have funding to allocate towards heavy drug use, distribution of new needles, narcon, and even heroin if used in controlled centers with doctors (which I’m all for and think is actually a great thing and studies do show it leads to more people becoming sober, as well as prevents deaths by allowing people to use in a safe environment. It gives addicts access to help whenever it’s needed medically or if they decided it’s time for a change of lifestyle, help of all forms is available 247 in those centers), why can’t we fund a state-run food collection service for companies that purposefully over-produce food?

It’s honestly not like it would mess with the money the business makes - most, if not all people who could afford it would go to the business and pay for it fresh just as they did before and wouldn’t have the time to wait at a center to get the food, especially if they’re tryna get a donut before work. And we all know in the end, there’s money for such programs.

This is kinda fucked up.

I mean it's extreme - and sensationalist nonsense. The environment looks extreme, and dry - most humans have water, so even if you don't bathe or shower you can still not be filthy. The guy is an extremist, and likely has mental health issues. I know of people who only wash their pits, groin and face. The only people who get and stay filthy like that, that I know of, are homeless folks with mental health issues. Not talking about nasty looking clothes, which is an entirely different matter.

Man Digs a Hole in a Mountain and Turns it Into an “Amazing Apartment” - I respect the hustle & enjoy watching these videos, but this dude put way too much time & energy into what looks like a visionless, unplanned project.. Title pretty much says it all.. Each time you think you understand the aesthetic he’s going for or think things are turning around and it’s starting to look cool, he ruins it leaving you scratching ur head. I’ve never found a custom-built nature home or temporary shelter in one of these videos to be ugly, no matter the quality of the video or materials & tools used.. but this guy had access (as well as professional training..) to tools, materials & a budget most creators in this “genre” of videos don’t have.

He managed to turn a really cool concept, into an ugly collage of holes carved into the side of a mountain as well as a super tiny living space that’s tight, has no bubble space and you’re always inches away from essentials like the bathroom/shower, the bedroom & the “hangout space” - that is if it isn’t another tiny hole carved into the side of the mountain thats disconnected, that he has to leave his “house” to access.. It’s super inconvenient and looks like he just did shit as he went along without thinking, and the guy spent over 4 years on this shit and it’s still not done yet - almost. It came out super ugly, he could’ve made this into a really dope home but idk what he was smoking.

Still an interesting watch to see the process, what he does, how his “plans” change over time, and what it ends up looking like... it amazes me how cramped it is, how sloppy everything, including the cement work (which he uses for everything, including the bathroom “counter”) looks, & how he managed to turn something natural that could have easily kept its natural feel, into a cramped dungeon from medieval times that was just discovered & is half-caved in.

What a waste of almost five years lol.

Look at what these motherfuckers are capable of in 30 days; imagine if they had access to his tools, budget & materials?!
