Lāčplēsis tautas eposs, pēc tautas teikām sacerēts

VI dziedājums

braukdami pa Daugavu,

Pusnaktī redz divus vīrus

Stāvā krastā cīkstoties;

Pa to laiku piles drupās

Atspīd it kā uguntiņš.

Divi vīri cīnīdamies

Pienāk pašā krastmalā,

Kamēr beidzot tie no krasta

Ūdens dzelmē iegāžas;

Gaudu kliedziens atskan pilī,

Nodziest uguns gaismiņa.

Tas ir Lāčplēs's, kas te cīkstas

Vēl ar svešo naidnieku,

Laimdota tur pili skatās,

Gaida, kamēr uzvarēs.

Un ar reizi nāks tas brīdis,

Kad viņš savu naidnieku,

Vienu pašu lejā grūdis,

Noslīcinās atvarā, -

Tad zels tautai jauni laiki,

Tad būs viņa svabada!

Nemāk runāt un staigāt: Krievijā uziet "maugļu bērnu" - aizdomas, ka no Latvijas Cannot talk and walk: In Russia found “Mowgli child” – Suspicions that it is from Latvia. by Gravi in Letts

TRANSLATION: In the Moscow region Russian police while tracking a suspect found an afflicted child who lived with cats in a landfill made apartment. The child was found by complete luck – law enforcement officers noticed in the street a suspicious pensioner who suddenly tried to hide by climbing into a window of a private house. When inside, the officers spotted garbage filled rooms and corridors. Everywhere were dirty belongings but in the middle they found many cats and a child. The child was found in an apartment in Taldoma, Shedrina Street. By his appearance the child was around 3-4 years old but the issue “Moscow’s Komsomoļec” clarify that a six year old girl is found. She cannot speak and walks on all fours and understand only “kis-kis” (Like calling a cat but in Russian). She was accompanied by 19 cats with whom she grew up. The girl was transferred to a hospital but her caretaker a 65 old Muscovite questioned. Who is he to the child is not clarified. However “Express Newspaper” says that there were two girls – six year old Dace and eleven year old Mišana and their forty eight year old mother who is a citizen of Latvia. The oldest daughter did not remember the last time she was in school. The girls lived on cat food. Basically Russians saying that Latvians are just some animals, as fucking always.

It's not about my age, it's about my priorities and what I want to accomplish over the next ~20 years or more.

Thanks for putting your hat into the ring.

I have several major posts to finish and share before I make my big personal announcement. I'll give the SaidIt community many options to chose from and they can help decide which few projects they'd like me to focus on, in addition to the 2 I definitely need to focus on. From then on my activity here on SaidIt will be very different.

Trust me you can learn anything at any age no matter what, age should not be a barrier for things you can learn. I believe that I can help yes, when I have the time of course. I can help with pronunciations, some accents and other many things. You can do work on any theme, I believe in democracy and being able to do anything and thus I have to respect ones opinion and decision because in a democracy you are free to believe and do even if it is not true to many standards and facts. Sure, I'll help.

TIL. Fascinating. If I were not 50 I would certainly consider learning another language, the guitar, and to code. I need to focus now on what I can do most effectively for the most good.

That reminded me. I just realized I have a project that I'd like your help with, if you're interested. This is me, and I may start my own video channel with short skits. I can obviously dress up like Santa, vikings, Scotts, homeless, or whatever. I have a long list. One of those characters could be me pretending to be Rasputin. I live in Windsor, Ontario so I thought it would be funny to have a series of Rasputin's take on Canada in the 21st century. Not only would I need help improving whatever I draft as a script, I'd also want to have key words to drop in, reference of English spoken with a Russian accent, and maybe a voice-over and/or translation in case anyone in Russia wanted to have a laugh too.

Critical to all my work would be anti-authoritarianism, anti-scamdemic, exposing corruption, and other related themes - so be warned. This project may take some time to get started and may take even longer to complete. I'm aiming to make more of an impact with quality over quantity.

I was just lucky I spoke 3 languages as a child (I speak Latvian, English, Russian and am learning German). Latvian to English isn't really sophisticated as one would wish and well more or less even translations in books can be horrid - speaking from experience from a friend. Russian and English is much more common for history reasons I would say. Latvian has only been an official language since 1918 to about 1939 and then it was used throughout the soviet era as well but of course as an official one only after the USSR broke down and we regained independence. I can translate Russian too but I hate writing in Russian (Both keyboard and hand). You should try to learn a new language no matter what, because it always opens up a new possibility to something, you never know when it might come in dandy.

Impressive. I wish I could speak more than just 1 language.

My experience with Google Translation is limited, but it seems obvious to me that the Latvian-English was beyond abysmal. I'm guessing there simply isn't much demand for it with Russian-English being much more common.

Thanks for the suggestion, I agree that automated translators are a pain, I am not exactly a Latvian translator, I am a native and I speak 4 languages. I use google translate often because it translates some words and helps often. I can easily tell about something if something is in Latvian but to translate is a more gruesome and a very tasking task.

I wrote this article a couple years ago. I could have used a Latvian translator. It was painful translating with Google Translate, paragraph, sentence, and word by word, over and over again to get the actual meaning of what was being said in the handful of Latvian articles I could find, rather than the brutal direct and VERY limited machine translation. Never again.

IMO, the sidebox of this /s/Letts should also include the info in the description:

/s/Letts: Latvian topics and news in English

This sub is about Latvian things and news which are translated by me or someone else who knows the language. You may also request a translation for an article in the Latvian language. Posts must be either a request for translation or an already translated post, they also can be something about Latvia.

Video: In Social media Levits words spoken in TV were once again ironized. by Gravi in Letts

TRANSLATION: In a microblogging site Twitter a video was published in which a fragment of President Egīls Levits interview. Social media users did not understand his comments. Twitter user, who has published video, comments about it with irony: “Latvia’s president explains”. It is understandable that when watching the video fragment, Levits comments on the vaccination process in Latvia. He says” And I think, that, well I have confidence that it is how it should be, that it is.” Meanwhile other twitter users are not hiding their confusion about his afore mentioned words. “Short, concrete, businesslike he put points on Ž…” is said in a comment. Another one writes: “Well yeah it’s going like this, then he is not far away from Joe Biden.” We recently reported that a new Levits phrase he made on television has become popular on Twitter. Then the president paraphrased the known idiom – On the ferry horses are not exchanged. Wow! We have a new idiom! “Horses are not exchanged in the middle of a river”, the phrasing in the microblogging site Twitter was shared by “Ziemas Ezis” (Winter hedgehog). Yeah I know it's ON tv not in tv, I just didn't put much effort.
