What do you mean by "alternative"?

In terms of "alternative style," there's generally a particular aesthetic involving unnatural hair colors and cuts in blunt or unusual shapes, visible tattoos, artistic and/or unnatural-looking makeup using a lot of black eyeliner and/or unusual shapes and colors, visible body piercings, etc. Clothing could look a lot of different ways depending on the person, but I think you get the picture.

In terms of alternative lifestyle which does not inherently overlap with alternate style but for many people it does, I would be referring to polyamory, kink, etc. And these days, chances are they identify as queer/pansexual.

In terms of my relationship with alternative style, I infused some elements of alternative-ness into my style starting when I was a teenager. I was very into piercings. I think I fell in love with them because I was really into Tasha Tilberg's look and her septum piercing. I was transfixed by this photo. I seriously had no idea she was a lesbian though. Wish I knew. She's been modeling since the 90s when she was 14 and apparently she was openly gay the whole time. Anyway, Tasha is the perfect level of alternative for me IMO. I always find it funny that Cover Girl selected Tasha as their face for a while because they managed to make her look so soft and kind of generic.
