TBH I didn't notice the age gap when I watched the trailer. I don't even know how far apart in age Kate and Saoirse are. I get what you mean though. Thing is, there are so few lesbian movies (one or two per year if we're lucky) that it immediately becomes this "it has to represent every lesbian experience accurately and look good for the straights who watch it because visibility! and we don't want to look bad" I get it but it's an impossible task.

20 years. And it’s pretty easy to not have a huge age gap considering most couples do not have 20 years between them, or even 10. It would be fairly easy to avoid creating these dynamics. Hollywood does the same with men and women in movies, or intentionally chooses stories with these types of power dynamics. It would be nice to see more similar age couples, and more couples where dudes are not somehow involved and the lesbianism isn’t fraught, but i guess that’s not interesting to heterosexuals, or even lesbians sometimes
