James Somerton is the subject of a recent YouTube video on false claims, and the subject of a segment of another video about plagiarism. I admit that I haven't heard of the guy prior to this so forgive me. Also both videos are quite long and while I do intend to watch them both, I wanted to put them out here because I can already see the relevance.

hbomberguy uploaded the plagiarism video first. Here's the timestamp to jump to the Somerton segment. While the focus is plagiarism, hbomberguy touches on Somerton's inaccuracies as well.

The second video comes from music critic Todd in the Shadows. It's a rapid-fire fact-checking extravaganza. More than 90 minutes of debunking or scrutinizing falsehoods.

I am well aware of the loose relationship TRA's and allies have with history. But the amount of bullshit from this one guy is absolutely astounding and damaging. The truth is constantly being eroded by people like James and this exposure seems to me to be a small victory for the Drop The T crowd.

Don't bother looking for Somerton on Twitter or Discord, he seems to be deleted from both. His Patreon page appears to be down as well. A proper response doesn't currently exists, but I read that he wants to work to gain his follower's trust back. Let's hope his efforts are futile.

I find it so Ironic that the they/thems, “Queer” folx support a country that would happily murder them in a heartbeat and no this does not mean I condone what Isreal is doing I think they’re both disgusting but it’s just funny to see how rabidly they defend them making filters and sharing posts online

I always wonder who actually watches these people and how they make money. Jessie Gender is one I'm continuously fascinated by. He makes 2+ hr videos of circular nonsense. Who has time to sit and watch these every week? How much time and money does it require of him to produce his garbage content?

There's apparently money in churning out this kind of content. I mean, the biggest investment would be research and clearly these creators aren't interested in accuracy. In the case of Somerton, there's a number floating around Twitter, people are speculating he was making 6 figures from Patreon alone. I'm not entirely sure if it's true or not, but hbomberguy retweeted a couple of these claims so maybe I'm missing something obvious.

It was quite surprising to learn just how big of a plagiarist scumbag this dude really was. Granted I was never a fan of this guy and had only seen like 2 of his videos which I found contrived but it was still surprising to learn about nonetheless. I watched HBomberguy video and I was getting constantly annoyed of him referring to gays and lesbians as "queers" and then the whole Mulan thing saying her story was also a "gender allegory" (no the fuck it wasn't).

Haha for real, and I'm hearing that James is a bit of a misogynist so him running with the Mulan bastardization makes even more sense because oh no, a woman character can't be more than the stereotypes lambasted onto them. Eugh. I'm just glad the original Mulan movie came out in the 90s because if it came out today, they would've totally made her trans-identified, like it would be revealed at the end of the movie.. .
