Feminists tend to support the underdog, especially intersectional feminists, and Queer Theory gave a veneer of academic prestige to the academic side of it. Thus, despite the warnings of gender critical feminists, they opened the door to transactivism.

There used to be Women's Studies departments at many U.S. universities. One by one, they surrendered without a fight and became "Gender Studies" departments.
