Would going to a therapist to seek out the underlying reason that a young person may want to transition (which can be many things mind you), constitute as trans conversion therapy?

In their eyes, that's precisely what "trans conversion therapy" is.

The only reason a young person could want to transition is that they're trans. So sayeth the Church of T. Responding with anything short of "affirmation" is "conversion therapy". Never mind if they're autistic, suffering from PTSD, traumatized by abuse, unable to accept being same-sex attracted, have OCD, are caught up in a porny fantasy world, or all of the above... only a transphobe would pay attention to any of THAT!

That was the worry under the original proposed ban. It was feared that it allowed for affirmation only of identity issues so any work that family, school or medical/psych professionals did with a person to help them get to the root of their gender identity issues/dysphoria and desist from wanting to transition could have been criminalised.
