I agree with all of this, though not sure of this statement.

But, of course, when Republicans were given the chance to write the bill, they had to throw sexual orientation in, too

I think parents are also uncomfortable with the rainbow swathed classrooms, and teachers coming out to students in those early grades. All the sexuality stuff, like r rated books for teens, kids coming home saying they are biromantic demi sexual lesbians, when they haven't even gone through puberty, or had a first kiss.

I think we are in a better place culture wise so not discussing even lgb in those grades won't matter, ironically thanks to corporate pride where lgb(tq) is all over the place. Personally, I think they could have extended it to more grade levels, not talking about transition options for gnc youth only helps us.

There will be backlash for us but I don't know if this is it.
