Do people not even know what "sexual orientation" MEANS anymore? Because this demonstrably fails to meet the basic definition.

Sexual orientations are based on biological sex: your own + that of those to whom you're attracted = your sexual orientation.

Does this have SWEET FUCK-ALL to do with any of that? NO.

Ergo, it is not a sexual orientation.

"Demisexuality" is, at best, a subheading of one's sexual orientation-- the form that it takes for any given individual. Like a straight guy who wants women to make the first move, or a "pillow-princess" lesbian, or a bisexual who's the proverbial hopeless romantic. Nothing wrong with any of those things... but they aren't sexual orientations. They're add-ons; the way that one's sexuality expresses itself.

How did EVERYTHING get to be a sexual orientation? What's next, doing-it-with-the-lights-off-sexuality? Fatal-weakness-for-prickly-intellectuals-sexuality? Into-people-I-meet-through-mutual-friends-sexuality? What's the appeal of all this glorified nit-picking?

No, people don't know what "sexual orientation" means anymore. This is why we're starting to see shit like "heteroromantic," because people just don't fucking understand that "sex" in "sexual orientation" means "biological sex" and not fucking "sexual intercourse."

People are idiots that don't understand etymology or what words mean but they're simultaneously so overconfident in their own stupidity that they think they know everything.

This. I am so tired that I cannot describe myself as just asexual but all of sudden I also gotta mention "aromantic" to please bored straights, who are "heteroromantic".
