I'm sorry that I respond to this old post, but I'm tired of this uneducated generalization of Slavic culture (or just presenting it as barbaric in general! That's a Nazi narrative!), because it's incredibly complex. I don't deny that EE societies struggle with homophobia and misogyny, but every other society does in some way. We have a lot of issues, and we are solving them slowly but surely. We will get there, some countries slower than others, but I can see that things are getting better (Poland has been getting gay representation in media recently, too!). The TRA has sadly distanced a lot of people. What the Czech president recently said is what most Western Slavs feel like. The trans stuff is just weird and hard to understand.

Also, when talking about objective "misogynism" of cultures: it was England that had a "Wife selling" custom, at the same time Poland had Emilia Plater. And don't get me started on female snipers and pilots in Russian army during II WW, an idea that Western countries viewed as "barbaric" (Women are gentle creatures!!!).

Just adding my two cents. I can also mention that I live in "the gay capital of Poland" and I see rainbow flags every day. Media isn't always showing a true, realistic portrayal of the actual situation.
