The book Mind, Self and Society is the basis for symbolic interactionism. It's a compilation of George Mead's university lectures. Essentially what the theory argues is that reality is socially constructed and you can change reality by changing how society defines things. Things society defines as real are real in their consequences. The trans movement is all about redefining things to try to make them reality.

Human Nature and the Social Order by Charles Cooley is another important book within Symbolic Interactionism and covers the Looking Glass Self concept. Looking Glass Self is the process of developing a sense of self through the lens of how society views yourself, basically who you are is also a social construct. Which goes with the whole TWAW and TMAM thing because their sense of self is based on how society views them.

Symbolic Interactionism is a nutty as fuck read and hard to understand, but it kind of perfectly explains what the trans movement is trying to do.
