Sociologist Max Weber talked of the disenchantment of society, arguing that modern society means a society where people don't look for a magical explanation of phenomenal, but rather a explanation that is based upon reason and rationality.

It is very clear that we are seeing the re-enchantment of society in a post-modern society that is devoid of reason and rationality.

Symbolic interactionism is the sociological theory that they are using. And yes, it's fucking nuts and is basically never used for any serious sociological analysis because of that.

Curious if you know of any reading materials about this?

The book Mind, Self and Society is the basis for symbolic interactionism. It's a compilation of George Mead's university lectures. Essentially what the theory argues is that reality is socially constructed and you can change reality by changing how society defines things. Things society defines as real are real in their consequences. The trans movement is all about redefining things to try to make them reality.

Human Nature and the Social Order by Charles Cooley is another important book within Symbolic Interactionism and covers the Looking Glass Self concept. Looking Glass Self is the process of developing a sense of self through the lens of how society views yourself, basically who you are is also a social construct. Which goes with the whole TWAW and TMAM thing because their sense of self is based on how society views them.

Symbolic Interactionism is a nutty as fuck read and hard to understand, but it kind of perfectly explains what the trans movement is trying to do.

Yes, more gay men need to speak up. Sadly, in the last few years, gay men got collectively lazy and we were only opinionated on safe topics. Now we’re going to have to grow back our balls and talk about the uncomfortable topics once again.

Ordinarily, I don’t agree with writer Douglas Murray on many things but he does have at least one aspect right; we really are living in a demented time where reason and rationality have left the room. It should be simple enough in 2021 to talk about gay men and know people will understand what is meant by the words, particularly after 60+ years of LGB activism.
