From steroids to estrogen... what in the midlife crisis hell is going on!! Why aren't 40+ year old women "switching genders" at an alarming rate?

I found this 2019 study on the differences between androphilic(male-attracted) and gynephilic(female-attracted) MtF when it comes to how old they are when they are dysphoric and when they transition, and I think it might give some insight on the prevalence of some apparent transition spikes for certain age ranges.

edit: The first spike in the twenties can be easily explained as being the general time most transitioners who became dysphoric mostly in their teens finally possessed the funds to do so. Once whomever intended to transition for those years has transitioned, the level drops off almost completely. I'm not sure yet why there's another apparent spike in the forties. And the relative lack of gender dysphoria preceding the 2nd spike as compared to the 1st spike is curious.

Mid life crisis possibly.
