I hope this is the case, and that it's just the situation that most "straight allies" of the T are just not exposed to the vile shit. But on the other hand, how can anyone look at the replies to a JKR thread and not see the anime-pic, raging TRAs telling her to choke on their ladycock. There has to be some willful ignorance there too.

I have certainly had (straight) friends make hardline pro-trans statements about JKR - they thought they were supporting me, their gay friend, and are pretty surprised when actually I don't feel the same.

This! This is why I think it's so important for us to talk to the straight people in our lives, and give them "permission" to disagree with this stuff. Because a lot of them feel like they need to be given permission.

People are ignorant on this issue and they are absolutely desperate not to be late to the liberation party of a new group. They are scared that they are oppressing trans people like gay people were, and they know it was wrong to oppress gay people. At least this has certainly been by experience.

There really is no simpler explanation for this phenomenon of so many ordinary people buying into this charade so quickly and thoughtlessly. They believe they are helping by affirming anyone's gender identity without question, but instead they are hurting by delegitimizing the biological sexes and the associated and dependent sexual orientations. The heart without the mind is like driving while blind. Emotionally manipulative TRA rhetoric is the blindfold. The power of the majority is the vehicle itself.
