First of all-- just so we're clear, you agree that the total subscriber count is growing, right? You denied that in your first comment, but after I refuted it, you switched to talking about the active user count.

If we're talking about the active user count:

  • Right now, on my screen it says there are 14 people online and 1,685 subscribers total. So our percentage of users currently active is 14/1685 or approx. 0.00875, or approx. 0.8% of users.

  • Compare that to, say, actuallesbians: right now it says 1.0k are online out of 299k subscribed. Even if we take a generous estimate of AL's activity and pretend there are 1,099 online and 299,999 subscribed, their percentage of currently active users is 1099/299999 = 0.00366... or approx. 0.3% of users.

So we're actually over twice as active as actuallesbians! That's pretty cool. I'm glad you asked lol, I didn't know that before.

I think part of the reason for that may just be that AL is much older and so has accumulated more accounts that haven't been active in years. But, it's worth observing that having a way lower "active user count" than "total subscribed" count is REALLY common. I mean, look at AskReddit for example. 103k online, 30.8 million subscribers, that's about 0.33% of total subscribed active right now.

Anyway, point being, s/lgbdropthet is actually more active than most subs. But, the total number of subscribers doesn't necessarily reflect how active a sub is, I agree. I'm sure there are subreddits with masses of subscribers and activity rates closer to 0.001%.

edit: Also worth mentioning: this sub seems to have a lot of users from all over the world, whereas many Reddit subs skew U.S.-based. So our "active user count" may be more evenly distributed throughout the day and appear lower overall because of that, as well.
