There's this idea that only people of a certain minority can reclaim a slur used towards that minority.

In that context, when a transman who claims to be gay uses homophobic slurs, it's like saying "I can use these words because I'm gay". When they keep using these slurs and nobody calls them out, it's like the people around them are supporting their idea that they're a real gay man.

At the same time, it serves as a way to be offensive towards actual gay men. And if these gay complain about being called homophobic slurs, well, you can call them transphobes for it.

So for them it's killing two birds with one stone.

Aah. Spot on. Of course that's why. Sometimes it's so painfully regressive and narcissitic it's just hard to believe it's true.
