In their eyes, it does. That's why those of us in liberal areas get "theyed" without our consent.

We're not automatically valid women to them. It's fucking depressing because my masculinity is what made me question whether I was a woman in the first place.

Edited for clarity.

This hasn't happened to me yet but the first time it does I'm finally going to have my "ITS MAAM" moment. I get called sir pretty frequently (especially with the masks) and that never bothers me, but for some reason the thought of me being a "they" because I'm not frilly enough to be considered a woman is enraging.

Edit: not in a liberal area, we will see what happens next time I visit one

I'm lucky, too. I live in a very un-woke area. I get "sir" from people who think I'm biologically male because they apologize when they realize I'm not.

But I've had women in liberal areas tell me they get called "they" all the time. I had a teacher on Reddit tell me she pulled aside a GNC 14-year-old girl to ask her her pronouns. She could not understand how anyone would find an authority figure suggesting to a child that she might not be a girl upsetting or unethical.
