The facts exist as presented but it does seem like Breitbart's intentions here were to criticize the riots and connect them to BLM. The party being a gay gathering is incidental.

I think there is a separate issue that BLM is being coopted by TRAs and looters. It's become politically radioactive to criticize anything related to BLM and now doubly so because TRAs have merged into it.

There is also an issue where the gay beach party was nonthreatening and cooperative so media and cops could get close and make a sanctimonious issue over it and have lots of pictures.

I don't think it's helpful to try and pit gays against BLM either.

The riots and BLM are connected. https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/black-lives-matter-holds-rally-supporting-individuals-arrested-in-chicago-looting-monday/2320365/

I don't see the article trying to pit gays against BLM, rather it's pointing out Mayor Lightfoot's inability to maintain order in Chicago, with an interesting side note that the beach goers were a group of gay guys.

The title of this post, and the article, are misleading. The riots and BLM may be connected, but LGB is only incidentally related here.

Crazy: Mayor breaks up gay beach party but not riot.

  • It is way easier, logistically, to "break up a gay beach party" than to end these riots. Apples to oranges comparison.
  • She is ending all OTHER non-gay large event gatherings as well.. this is cherrypicking only one example. I don't think it's fair to paint her as some sort of villain towards gay people, when she is doing this to all non-protest large gatherings.
  • Also, for the record Lori Lightfoot is getting a ton of crap from the far left for trying to support police officers. I can't tell you how many individuals from the TRA crowd I know (who are all from Chicago) who are like "LORI IS EVIL" because she is not bending over backwards for BLM.

You may have a point about her not responding appropriately to BLM-- but that seems off-topic for a LGB sub. I would say this article linked is clickbait.

The title is accurate. All headlines are clickbait.

Something can be literally accurate but still be highly misleading, which is unethical. My point stands.

If someone started a sub to talk about BLM, though, I would be interested in joining.

The title is not misleading anyone to a wrong impression. Both subjects have two key things in common, the mayor and crowds during a time of hysteria. The word you're looking for is irrelevant.

The title implies that the mayor is selectively choosing which issues to police at all, which is not factually true, so yes it is misleading. It is also irrelevant, you're right.

It doesn't seem like we are likely to agree, so I am moving on. Peace.
