What I don't understand is that people act like this is some kind of revealed conspiracy; this is a completely clear fact obvious to anyone with at least 3 brain cells: in capitalism quality of everything deteriorates rapidly, it is firstly completely logical and secondly absolutely confirmed in practice, anywhere you look (tech, art, physical products, food, ...). Capitalism is by definition about maximizing profit on detriment of everything else, what's happening is exactly what's been promised, stop acting as if it's some kind of surprise.

Calling it a cult really destroys the credibility of the claim for me. Nothing about this is a cult.

It's true that quality has gone down, but there are lots of reasons for it. Planned obsolescence is a big factor too. The problem is longevity of products is a hidden factor. Some people do a lot of research before buying and they do care about quality. But many people just can't afford the price or the time it takes to do the research.

Even expensive products break down. And they often cost more than a new cheap product to fix. Often well made products are over engineered, causing reliability issues. Factors like this make picking a quality product far more complicated than "the consumers should care".

I have a button-doen shirt made in the late 1940s that belonged to my grandfather that I still wear to this day. (Tipiclly on Easter and my birthday)

Stop and really think about that .. that shirt is nearly 80 YEARS OLD!!! If was tailored for him and fits me perfect and still looks great. Crazy the quality of it.

Art has suffered a lot as well. The food industry got destroyed intentionally too.
