To be fair, much of the Internet already disconnected them. The world will ban Russian citizens from websites, ban them from services, ban them from banking, ban and shut down their news stations, and then turn around with a strait face and try to criticize Russia for bring back the "Iron Curtain," calling them isolationists.

The title is misleading, Russia will never leave the internet because the internet is not owned by anyone.. Russian requests will still be routed through other countries.. It's about stop relying on foreign infrastructure to be full in control.

I don't understand what you mean when you say Russian requests will be routed through other countries.

Russia is now hosting their own DNS servers. And their people are instructed to change from the .com domain to .ru.

And unfortunately the internet is owned by a few rich and power corporations. (They own the backbone and there is no free access point to it for the public.) I wish the internet were free, but you cannot connect to it without paying these corporations for access to their network, and if not you, then whoever is sharing their connection with you is paying these corporations for access.

Do you have any other thoughts on this?

I have no idea what is going in the actual war, but first McDonalds and facebook, and now the whole internet? These seem like victories to me.

Yeah. I wonder if Yandex will let me use their mailbox or if I'm gonna get cut off. I registered new emails elsewhere and reconfigured my accounts to use these new email addresses just to be safe though.

"All state-owned websites have to move to locally operated DNS by March 11, delete Java script codes downloaded from foreign services, and adopt the .ru domain extension."
