Good article

The hardest to replace is Android, google maps and drive. Google maps because they have good coverage and accuracy. It has become horrible over the past few years though. Not the actual maps, mind you, but the app itself. I want to view the map, the route, name of destination and other important shit but it is hell bent on taking up the screen with some other garbage like 'reviews for the place' etc. Can't search properly because it never bothers to show the full name of that place. I switched to OsmAnd 6-7 months back. It works better than I expected but still doesn't have everything mapped.

I need to use google classroom for now, and after it is done I might abandon my google account entirely. Fuck google.

I have it and it's really good!

The most used app by me is newpipe. Librera pro is also useful. Installed said it from there, I use simple http server to do file transfer (easiest and cleanest way, if not the most secure), openboard to make sure my keyboard doesn't spy on me. OsmAnd is also useful.

If I want an app I first check f droid.

    google maps

    Thing is, openstreetmaps and other services haven't picked up in developing countries etc. As I said, it works better than expected but, for example, I will never use it outside the city anywhere that is not a highway. If something changes, these maps aren't going to be updated as fast as google maps. I don't want it drive off a cliff or anything (yet). I'm sure osm works really well in the developed world where it has many contributors.

    It's not a difficult thing for people like you and I. But what about the layman? Not so easy for him. I've done it a few times now, but still the big disclaimers and warnings often scare people as you said. And sometimes problems are faced - sometimes as easy as a bad connection. Problem is that a large number of ppl find themselves completely clueless when a command window throws an unfriendly looking error message at them.
