There's no sign of it being reversible because deathfats don't get skinny in numbers significant enough to study. The brain is constantly being rewired.

Plenty of people lose weight.

But people who lose a significant amount of weight and keep it off for over 5 years is like 1 in 300.

This is because their brain thinks they are starving

The method is to go for muscle gain after losing fat, so you have a new purpose. Muscle gain can take years, unlike fat loss which is quick.
